Tutorship

Tutorships in Louisiana are known as Guardianships in other states. They are required by law to manage the affairs of minors, who do not have the legal authority to make decisions regarding their financial well-being.

Tutorships are necessary in situations where the minor's biological parents have passed away or divorced. Additionally, continuing tutorships are necessary in the case of a developmentally disabled person. They must be filed after the age of 15 but prior to the disabled person reaching the age of majority. This will ensure the parents retain the right to make decisions for them and avoid interdiction proceedings.
